A New Zimbabwe

November 23, 2017

Zimbabwe has been under the dictatorship of Robert Mugabe for so long that children, teens, and youth have never known any other leader. The country has come onto the global scene in the last two weeks as incredible political drama unfolded, resulting in the stunning act of Mugabe resigning yesterday.

The country has been decimated and plundered under his hand, leaving most of the population in poverty and desperation. Systemic corruption has invaded every facet of daily life, affecting people in every area, from disastrous agricultural land seizures, to over 95% unemployment, hyper inflation, and cash crises. Schools and medical facilities are derelict, and children have been abandoned in their hundreds of thousands as caregivers leave to search for employment in neighbouring countries.

This is the situation that Let's Give Them Hope works into in a real and visible way, every day. We strive to be an anchor in the middle of chaos, to be a stabilizing influence in the midst of instability and uncertainty.

Please remember the children of Zimbabwe and the work of Let's Give Them Hope this season. While there is a feeling of excitement and anticipation in Zimbabwe at the moment, the future is still very much up in the air. No one knows for sure what will happen, and so your prayers and support are more necessary than ever.
