Impressions of Africa

June 28, 2015

As our special guests Dennis and Wendy head back home to Alberta, Canada, here are some of their impressions from their stay in Zimbabwe:

"In October 2014 I first visited Let's Give Them Hope, where I got the opportunity to visit a child-headed household. There were three children in the family- an older boy, and two younger twins, a boy and a girl. I remember the oldest child, and one of the twins, Ben, could not make eye-contact with anyone. Based on their situation, I contacted our Bible study group in Alberta to share the details and ask if we could sponsor the twins. Everyone immediately agreed.

Over the past few months, we received pictures and letters from the twins. Our group read the letters together, and we were very emotional as the kids talked about school, and having hope for a better future.

On June 3, 2015, my wife, Wendy, and I travelled to Zimbabwe. It is my fourth time to Africa, and Wedny's first. On June 6th, LGTH had their weekly Saturday Program Day. 167 of the children attended for church, games, and lunch.

What an amazing moment as we were able to give our sponsored children a hug. It was one of the best moments of our life.

The change in Ben and Betty (the twins), was incredible. Standing in front of us were two confident and happier children than I first met in 2014. It was during the games that I even saw Ben teasing and chasing one of the girls!!

We have witnessed first hand what sponsoring a child can do. God has provided Let's Give Them Hope with a caring and nurturing staff to give these children a much brigther future. I know that when LGTH first started, they struggled to get the sponsorship program up and running, and today there are over 80 children sponsored! The increase in sponsor children is a testimony to the hard work of Let's Give Them Hope.

Psalm 32:7-8 & 10 says 'You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance. I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you... Many are the woes of the wicked, but the Lor'd unfailing love surrounds the ones who trust in Him."

God bless,

Dennis."

"Although I had seen many pictures of the Let's Give Them Hope property, I was amazed when I found myself actually standing on it.

Meeting the staff and volunteers of LGTH filled me with hope, knowing that each of them cares about and wants a better life for the children they minister to. The resourcefulness that they each bring is quite amazing. Nothing goes to waste.

The LGTH staff shared some very horrific stories of the children's lives before LGTH. I was told about one of the older boy's history of pain and struggles. On the way back from doing community visits, I got to meet this boy. He was smiling and joking; I could feel the love and trust that had been built between the staff and him. He was the first LGTH child to be sponsored, and I know the organization has given him the tools and knowledge to now go and help others in his community.

I am so very grateful that God first brought Dennis to Africa in 2012, so that we can now be a part of the Let's Give Them Hope family.

Wendy."
